Ms. Maree Wilson

Maree Wilson is the Chief of Place and Communities Division at Geoscience Australia (GA). In this role, Maree leads GA’s initiatives on community safety, foundational spatial information, and seafloor geography and geology.
Maree’s geospatial career has spanned many organisations, including the Department of Defence, Geoscience Australia, and Esri Australia. Across these, she has worked with many aspects of geospatial information, including: national mapping; bathymetric mapping; Earth observation with satellite imagery, aerial imagery and LiDAR; and desktop, server and mobile applications.
Maree holds a Bachelor of Technology, majoring in Geographic Information Systems, from the University of Southern Queensland. Prior to studying, Maree had a career in communications with the Royal Australian Navy.
Maree is a graduate member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and member of the Geospatial Council of Australia and regularly presents at regional, national and international conferences. She volunteers for the Mapping and Planning Support group (MAPS), who provide spatial support for emergency management agencies in times of crisis. In her spare time, she plays trombone in her local brass band and enjoys competing in Masters softball.
