A B.Tech graduate in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi and a Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee in the field of Geodesy, Dr. Upendra Nath Mishra is currently holding the charge of Addl. Surveyor General, Specialized Zone in Survey of India, the National Mapping Agency of India. During the 30 years of stint in Survey of India Dr. Mishra completed a number of projects of national importance, held positions such as Director, Geodetic & Research Branch, Dehradun, Director, National Institute of Geoinformatics, Science & Technology (NIGST), Hyderabad and Deputy Surveyor General (HR) at the Surveyor General’s Office, Dehradun etc. In Survey of India, he completed a number of national level important projects – Surveying and mapping of a number of hydroelectric projects in India and neighbouring countries, dam deformation studies for almost all important dams of India, establishment of ground control point library of India, Integrated coastal zone management (ICZM) survey etc. His research work on geoid modelling laid the foundation for geoid modeling in India. A number of his papers have been published in reputed international journals such as Journals of Surveying Engineering, ASCE; Journals of Geodesy & Cartography, Taylor & Francis; Journal of Institution of Engineers series ‘A’, Springer; Journal of Geophysical union of India etc. He has written white paper and chapters in important books. He has delivered a number of invited lectures in important institutions of repute in India in Geodesy and Surveying. He has attended a number of international conferences such as ICA and International conference on Geo-magnetics etc., and presented papers. Dr. Mishra has keen interest in the field of Geodesy.
